Ask questions across your files

A due-diligence data room just landed: financials, contracts, board minutes. Before building any sheet, you can simply ask. In this recipe you upload the documents, let Quanty analyze them, and interrogate the whole set in chat — with every answer backed by citations that open the exact page.

What you need: a set of documents (PDF, Word, Excel) and a few questions you'd otherwise spend an afternoon answering.

Step 1 — Upload the data room

Open Files and upload the documents — drag and drop, Choose File, or Choose Folder to keep the data room's structure. Each file shows its processing status: Processing, Analyzing, then Ready (or Failed, with retry). Files are analyzed after upload: text is extracted, chunked and indexed for retrieval.

Step 2 — Mind who can see what

By default files are visible to everyone in the organization. If parts of the data room are sensitive, set a file's sharing to Only me or Specific people with Can view or Can manage grants — retrieval respects these permissions.

Step 3 — Open chat

Press ⌘K anywhere, or use the Ask AI button. Pick a model in the composer if you want to trade cost against depth — see the model list for pricing tiers.

Step 4 — Ask real questions

What are the customer concentration risks mentioned anywhere in these documents?

The assistant searches your library — retrieval combines semantic search with full-text matching, so it finds both paraphrases and exact terms — reads the best chunks, and streams an answer with its reasoning.

Step 5 — Verify with citations

Answers come with citations: page chips that show the source file and page. Click one to open the document preview with the cited region highlighted. The chat footer says it plainly — the AI can make mistakes, so verify before you rely on a number.

Step 6 — Narrow or widen the scope

  • Attach specific files to the conversation to scope answers to just those documents.
  • Ask inside a workbook's sheet to combine document knowledge with the sheet's data — the assistant sees the spreadsheet and can read it as context.
  • Prefer talking? Use Record voice message — Quanty transcribes your question and drops the text into the composer.

Step 7 — Turn findings into structure

When an answer is worth keeping, ask the assistant to write it down:

Add these findings as rows in a new page called "Red flags".

Chat can add pages, rows and columns directly, which is the natural bridge from ad-hoc Q&A to a reviewable sheet — continue with Extract data from PDFs from there.
